Wilo is Germany’s largest pump manufacturer. With 16 production sites and more than 7.700 employees worldwide, they have annual sales revenue of €1,4 billion.
Innovation Goal
Wilo already knew they wanted access to the startup ecosystem. Their goal was to expand beyond pumps and introduce new products to their core business.
The Result
Wilo ended up building their own external innovation unit with a 20 million EUR fund for investment in early-stage startups. Today, they conduct international startup scoutings in order to find new business perspectives in West Africa.
Case Study 2: UNIDO
UNIDO ITPO supports European technology providers and investors find partners in developing countries. They advise companies from developing countries on sustainable and innovative technology development.
Innovation Goal
UNIDO’s goal was to identify startups from Nigeria working on innovative solutions for sustainable agriculture.
The Result
We conducted a scouting of agtech startups in Nigeria and hosted an innovation challenge in Lagos. Startups joined the challenge, and the winners presented at the Agritechnica trade fair.
Case Study 3: KWS
KWS is an agro-industrial company focusing on plant breeding and production of seed for corn, sugarbeet, cereals, rapeseed, sunflowers and vegetables. They have 5000+ employees with 60 subsidiaries worldwide, with annual revenues of €1,1 billion.
Innovation Goal
KWS wanted to find startups with data competences on a global scale in specific search fields.
The Result
We found relevant startups from US and Europe that were working in the sector. We presented this format at the “Pioneering AgTech” Farm&Food 4.0 conference in Berlin.
